Common BMW Issues We Fix
BMW’s are superbly engineered, but certain models and engines develop predictable issues as they age. Here’s what we see most often.
-
1
Oil & Coolant Leaks (Valve Cover, Oil Filter Housing)
Valve cover gaskets and oil filter housing gaskets are notorious leak points on N20, N52, N54, N55, and B58 engines — left unchecked, oil drips onto belts and accessories.
-
2
Cooling System Failure
Plastic water pumps, thermostats, and expansion tanks are well-known weak points across BMW engines — proactive replacement prevents overheating and head damage.
-
3
HPFP, Injectors & Carbon Buildup (N54 / N55 / N20)
Direct-injection engines develop intake valve carbon buildup, and N54s in particular see high-pressure fuel pump and injector failures — we walnut-blast and replace as needed.
-
4
VANOS, Eccentric Shaft Sensor & Timing Issues
VANOS solenoids, eccentric shaft sensors (Valvetronic), and timing chain guides on N20 / N26 engines are common fault sources we diagnose and repair.
BMW Maintenance & Condition Based Servicing
BMW uses Condition Based Servicing (CBS) — your car tracks driving conditions and tells you when each service is due. Here's a general guide to what those services include.
- BMW Longlife synthetic oil & filter
- Visual under-vehicle inspection
- Fluid level top-off
- CBS reset
- Cabin microfilter replacement
- Brake pad & rotor inspection
- Brake fluid replacement (~2 yr)
- Battery test & registration if replaced
- Comprehensive multi-point inspection
- Spark plugs (turbo engines sooner)
- Automatic transmission service (ZF 8HP)
- Walnut-blast carbon cleaning (direct-injection)
- Suspension & bushing inspection
- Coolant flush & water pump check
- Differential fluid (sooner for xDrive, M models, or track use)
- Transfer case fluid (xDrive)
- Belt, hose & cooling system check
Common Questions
Common questions we hear from BMW owners.
Will independent service void my BMW warranty?
No. The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your right to use an independent shop without voiding your factory warranty, as long as the work is done to manufacturer specifications using approved parts and fluids. We follow BMW specifications and document every service, so your warranty coverage stays intact.
Do you use OEM BMW parts?
Yes. We use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and OE-quality parts to maintain the build quality your BMW was designed for. For some repairs we'll offer upgraded alternatives — such as performance brakes, Dinan components, or longer-life parts — but the default is always OEM unless you ask otherwise.
How do I schedule an appointment?
